About Rick Distel

Real Estate Professional in Washington Depot, CT

Serving as the capstone to a 20-year career in real estate, Rick Distel joined the Washington Depot office of Sotheby's International Realty in 2008. His experience in the industry is multifaceted. While an undergraduate at the Ohio State University, he began buying, renovating and managing his own multi-family properties.

After moving to New York and receiving his MBA in Real Estate and Finance from NYU's Leonard N. Stern School of Business, he worked as a consultant at Ernst & Young, where he specialized in large-scale asset acquisitions and dispositions, performed due diligence and strategic advisory services, and provided valuations of closely held real estate companies.

In 2000, he co-founded a private real estate investment firm that invests in high value-added opportunities across property types, primarily focused in New York's downtown neighborhoods. He has been involved in virtually every aspect of the business, from property management to development, construction management to financing, and residential and commercial leasing.

Blending this experience with an absolute passion for Litchfield County, Rick is uniquely poised to work with buyers and sellers alike in these 26 towns. Whether looking to buy a small weekend cottage or a full-time residence, or perhaps sell a family home or switch from a woodland location to one with pastures and views, Rick will work tirelessly to exceed his clients' expectations.

A resident of Washington, Rick believes that this corner of Connecticut is like no other place, and he takes full advantage of all that life in the country has to offer, from long hikes in Steep Rock to fresh produce from local growers, from dinners at the local inns to shopping at local merchants. Eager to introduce people to these wonderful towns, Rick often acts as an informal concierge and can assist with everything necessary to make a transition to the country absolutely seamless.

Rick lives on a farm in Washington with his partner and their chocolate lab, Jake. He is also the proprietor of Rain Soaps, which is housed in an original post and beam building located in Washington's Marbledale Center. He is a member of the Town of Washington's Open Space Committee and the Washington Business Association.
